Hmm, challenges could be a nice idea. Though I would necessarily go with a vote system, just see what people come up with and enjoy their creations and read/write feedback.

Just my two cents anyway, maybe others think otherwise. I like the idea though. (OT, this more suited for Free Talk, maybe, though)

I agree doubly with Kassidy, this is a free talk topic. I do like the idea because lots of times I'm at a loss for what to make. Think it through a bit more and start something and see if it sticks. Sunday or Monday would be a better end day in my opinion though since that way everyone has the full weekend to work on it. Especially if people are working on larger sprites.

I'd like a story style thread, where users post a sprite picture with some props and additions and give it a tagline, then the next user comes in and continues the story etc. etc.

It's usually quite fun.

I like Anphobia's story idea.

I also had a contest idea in some other thread a while back that we could attempt to reproduce famous works of arts with beads and judge whose came out the best.

Topic has been moved here...

I like this idea a lot. PixelJoint has their weekly challenges...I think we should do the same thing.

Here's the plan, if everyone's cool with it:

1) I'll give out the first challenge this Monday, September 7, and it will be open for entries until the end of Sunday, September 14.

2) Each challenge can be limited by number of colors allowed, dimensions of the piece, content focus, custom vs. re-creation, etc. Basically, whatever the person making the challenge wants the criteria to be, but not going too crazy with it - we don't want to have members using up too many beads on a single challenge, and we only have a week to complete each challenge.

3) At the end of the week, the thread will be closed to posts and i'll set up a poll with all the final entries pictured above, so everyone can vote. Voting will be open for the following week, until Saturday night, to allow time for all members who wish to vote to do so.

4) I'll tally the votes and announce the winner on Sunday. Whoever wins will decide what the next challenge will be and I'll post it to a new thread. Please, if you enter, be prepared to make a challenge if you win, as I will need to know what it is before the end of Sunday, so I can post it on Monday.

5) Each challenge title will have the name of the person giving out the challenge and their name for the challenge. The first post in the challenge thread will be their criteria, and the last will be the poll for voting.

Just so we all have time to work, sleep, play and work on non-challenge bead sprites, there will be a week in between each week of challenges, during voting.

For example, September will look like so:

Challenge 01 - Sept. 8 - 14
Voting for 01 - Sept. 15 - 20
Winner for 01 - Sept. 21
Challenge 02 - Sept. 22 - 28
Voting for 02 - Sept. 29 - Oct. 4
Winner for 02 - Oct. 5

...and so on.

Sound good to everyone?

There can be a theme - the criteria is up to the person who makes the challenge. The theme could be people, animals, space, futuristic, historic, etc. The whole idea is that it's different every week.

In addition to everything I said before, another idea I want to implement is that whoever gives the challenge cannot participate in it. So for this first challenge, since I'm making it, I wont submit anything.

That doesn't mean the challenge maker can't try it - it just means that they won't be included in the entrees, cause it wouldn't be fair for someone to give a challenge that they've already done Razz Plus, it means no one will be giving two challenges in a row, since if they can't enter, they can't win, and therefore cannot have the privelage of coming up with the next challenge until the following week, if they win someone else's challenge.

Sound good?

I agree with the not competing in your challenge week. Also, I think that non-ironed work should be able to be submitted in a situation where you compete in the week, but the work isn't really your cup of tea. Like if the them for the week was animals, but i only want to keep game sprites, i would prefer not to iron. Does this seem like an okay criteria?

Well, once again, I'd say that's up to the person making the challenge. For example, let's say I made a challenge to make a 3-D bead sprite - you'd have to iron it then.

But generally, I'd say it would be alright for most challenges to just bead it up, if it's just a flat bead sprite. That's also why I think no one should go too crazy with the challenges.

I would say themes such as

A Certain Game
A Certain Series
A Game From A Specific System
Any sprite using only X number of colors
A Sprite using only one pegboard
A Sprite of any boss enemy etc..

Just enough so there is a unifying theme to judge everything on.

Yeah, I think most of us like making similar things related to games, so I wouldn't worry about anyone having us make zoo animals or anything.
