Hey Guys,
Been lurking for a bit, and just got started making actual bead creations. I'm also a programmer, and thought I'd create a tool for making patterns for doing Perler creations. It will let you upload an image, and will create a grid, and color match to the Perler palette. It's only a couple of days old, but I've been testing it a lot. Please check it out and let me know what you think:
http://www.edsfamily.com/projects/perlerpal/
Right now, I've called it "PerlerPal" but am looking for a more generic name, since it can be used for Hama, cross-stitch, Legos, whatever. If you guys happen to think of a better name (preferably one that I can reg a domain for , lemme know.
Regarding the palette: I don't particularly like it -- I tried to get an average color for each of the beads (using the official Perler site's images, blurring them, and taking a sample) -- The colors came out a little blah... I'm going to work on a palette creator soon, so if you guys have a better palette (with RGB hex codes), you'll be able to create your own palette with it soon enough.
Please try it out and let me know if you have any comments/suggestions, etc.! I'm still new at this beading business, but it has been a blast so far! (except sorting )
Thanks
- Ed |

| VERY cool program. The only thing I'd really like to see is a larger max image size. |

Thanks for the comments!
I can increase the size, but it makes the recent images get a little crazy when there's huge images - what size are you looking for? The max size right now is 128x128 (which is 16K beads) - how about 256x256? |

New version up.
* Increased max image size to 256x256
* Changed recent images to only show most recent 25 (in reverse order)
* Added a page to view all images (it was getting a little crowded, but didn't want them to go away entirely)
Todo:
* Add print option (remove extraneous stuff -- only show grid and legend)
* Add palette creator
* Add the ability to show a code in addition to/instead of colors (letters or numbers) - saves on ink when printing, and helps discern colors
Ideas:
* Would people be interested in a site where you could have galleries for each person's creation? (upload ability, large images, etc.) I wouldn't want to detract from this forum -- I would probably just link to this forum from the site. I have some ideas for a whole site devoted to this (which the tool would be a part of) - if anyone has any ideas, let me know |

| Sounds like a neat idea. You could seperate them into different Series. Mario, Sonic Etc. And Show more than one of some that more than 1 person did. |

| Great idea. Unfortunately, I lack the programming knowledge to do such a thing (I only know actionscript, and little of it). My roomate actually brought the idea of making a program like this when he saw me re-coloring some sprites, but I never got around to making it with him - looks like I don't have to now. |

Hey Ed, awesome program. I like the new palette editor. A buddy of mine was working on something similar a while back. Anyone who is interested in checking it out can download it here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/97128603/bead_helper.rar.html
I showed him your PerlerPal site and he said he was curious what you'd think of his stab at it, so if you want to take a peek at the .jar file and email him any thoughts or comments (his email address is in an included text file), that would be very cool. |

your perlerpal is quite different from some others that i saw. do you know any other software that can produce images like these?
http://tw.f2.page.bid.yahoo.com/tw/auction/b39933546
the colours here are more spreaded out, unlike perlerpal.
do anyone know of the software to create these kind of pictures? pm me pls. thanks. |
