I WAS a videogame virgin until I bought my 6-year-old daughter a Nintendo DS for her birthday 2 weeks ago.

Now I spend my time fighting with a 6-year-old, a 19-year-old, and a 58-year-old over whose turn it is to use the DS! (I'm hoping to get my own DS for my birthday next week...)

As we're new to all this, we only have a few games: Super Princess Peach,
Petz Cats, Petz Hamsters, Spongebob Atlantis Squarepantis, Wall-e, Disney Princesses, Strawberry Freakin' Shortcake, and some fashion designer game that was on sale.

Needless to say, a few [most] of the above games are exceptionally lame, but hey, I bought them for my 6-year-old! I'm kind of enjoying Wall-e the most currently.

What Nintendo DS game(s) would you all recommend that I (not my kids or husband) try next?

Thanks for the recs., Crausse...I'll check them out!

If no one gets me my own DS for my birthday, I'm just gonna buy one anyway as a present to myself. I deserve it! Wink

I would look into Phoenix Wright - there's four of them all together, but it's not an action game by any means. My girlfriend and I love the games cause you gotta think a lot to solve court cases, investigations, and stuff like that. Very time consuming, but a great DS game, nonetheless.

Since you're new to all this, you probably dont have a favorite genre yet, so here are some slightly random suggestions.

Puzzle-
Tetris DS
Elite Beat Agents
Hotel Dusk
Cooking Mama
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney

RPG (Role Playing Game)-
Final Fantasy lll
Animal Crossing: Wild World
Rune Factory

Action-
Super Mario 64 DS
Super Mario Bros. DS
Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

Other-
Wario Ware: Touched

Some of those might be above a 6 year old's level, but the rest of the family could enjoy them. If you buy a game used, bring your DS along to make sure they work and play it for a few minutes to see how you like it. Most places dont mind you trying out a used game.

And dont forget you can play Gameboy Advanced games on a DS as well.

Something I used and enjoyed was Gamefly.com. It helps with DS games because some of them have HORRIBLE control setups. Also, if you like the game you can buy it from them for a discounted price and they will send you the box and instructions for it. Just a thought since you were just getting into this ;)

Might I suggest Rocket Slime Adventures & Chocobo Tales? They are both really cute and really fun at the same time.

I also second most of the other suggestions. Phoenix Wright and Hotel Dusk were both wonderful. In the same sort of genre is Professor Layton's Curious Village which is also very fun.

If you like sudoku, I also recommend Picross which is a sudoku-esque puzzle game that never seems to get old to me.

I could go on for days, but it seems you have a bit of an overload of suggestions. =P Enjoy your DS when you get it. I absolutely love mine.

not be illegal in any sort of way. but i recommend getting an R4.

you can play "back-ups" homebrew and music all through the ds with out modifying the unit itself. go do some research on it. i guarentee you will want one.

I'm definitely backing up the Ace Attorney Series as the best game ever XD I recently *JUST* finished the latest installment.

Other games I recommend:
★Cooking Mama - have fun with simulated cooking!
★Warioware: Touched DS - Lots of obscure minigame fun
★Elite Beat Agents - a rhythm game where you tap the numbers in time to the rhythm. VERY FUN!!
★Professor Layton and the Curious Village - game where you solve puzzles (logic?) through a storyline
★Picross
★Mario Games (always a classic)

But yeah I "third" getting an R4~
there are some japanese import games that just aren't available in western countries yet and its cool to try some out until they are. (simple to understand ones anyways) like Taiko no Tatsujin (which is a drumming game)

Here are some games I enjoyed playing on the Nintendo DS:

- Kirby: Canvas Curse
- Warioware: Touched
- Mario Kart DS
- Mario vs Donkey Kong 2

Also, the upcoming pokemon game: Heart Gold and/or Soul Silver is a must have.

If you enjoy the DS a lot, you might want to consider getting an emulator to play the older Nintendo and Super Nintendo, and even Nintendo 64 games for free. You can even hook up controllers via USB, and there's a ton of great games. There's a lot of multiplayer too, so 2-4 people can play at once (depending on how many controllers you have, I use playstation controllers with an adapter, you can get the adapters for dirt cheap on ebay).

There are a lot of great N64 games, and some great NES ones, but I'll just list some a few SNES ones that I really enjoy:

- Chrono Trigger
- Super Mario RPG
- Donkey Kong Country 1, 2 & 3
- Super Tetris 3
- Super Mario Allstars
