So, my internet took a dump on me the other week, and I've been without it ever since..but I've really needed to order some new beads..

Well, I'm back online, so a /dance for me.

Anyway, my palette at this point is quite limited. I have most of the Perler colors as far as I know. I sorted through a 22,000 bead tub and I have what I have.

I've looked around a whole bunch, and I know I'm gonna order from callahan13 on e-bay. Seen plenty of recommendations, and the selection seems great.

I'm coming to you guys to hopefully get some help. I want to order a bunch of Hama beads, but I don't know what colors I should get. At this point I'm not too concerned with getting every single color, as some shades are quite subtle. I'm looking for opinions from anyone and everyone on what colors I should get to complement my perler beads.

For those that have the tl;dr thing:

What color hama beads should I get that aren't similar shades to perler beads?

Thanks in advance!

I can help on this one! I have all the Hama beads as well as Perler and Photopearls and can tell you exactly what to start off with outside Perler. First off, there are quite a few Hama colors that have "subtle" differences that I wouldn't advice for the first round of buying, but I would later because sometimes you need a "soft" gradient with similar colors and it supplies you with a full palette. Anyway, the major colors you should start off with in Hama that are very different from Perler are:

Light Brown
Flesh
Turquoise
Dark Red
Burgundy
Fluorescent Blue
Neon Blue
Army Green.

Those colors are my favorite picks from Hama for first round buying, but I would suggest also adding Hama Beige in there too. It is similar to Perler Tan, but it is lighter. When compared to flesh tones, I would say that it makes a better "light skinned" person, and Perler Tan goes better to someone who has seen some sun.

Later on, if you are looking for some more Hama colors to add to the palette, I would suggest:

Hama Brown - (it is a little darker then Perler Brown, so it goes good in a gradient)

Hama Reddish Brown - (it is like Perler Rust but more orangey then red),

Hama Pastel Green - (it is brighter in color then Perler Pastel Green which seems more dull of a tone to me)

Hama Pastel Red - (similar to Perler Blush, but darker)

Hama Transparent Black - ( I love using this color between Perler Grey, and Perler Dark Grey in a gradient since so many sprites have a lot of grey in them, but there isn't many fuse bead grey's out there. I would almost suggest getting this one in your first round of buying, but some people don't like slightly transparent beads, so that is up to you)

Hama Transparent Brown - ( it is a unique color to work with, honestly I forget I have it sometimes, but when I'm looking for an interesting extra brown to throw into a sprite, it comes in handy)

Hama Glow-in-the-Dark beads, Red and Blue - (only if you like working with glow-in-the-dark colors. The red is unique because Perler doesn't have it, and the blue glows much brighter in my opinion then the Perler Glow-in-the-Dark Blue.)

As for the Hama metal colors, Gold, Silver, and Bronze; I will say this. I have them, but I don't like them. They are interesting to have and use "sometimes," but they melt so ugly that I almost find them a complete and utter waste.

Now, on a side note, if you are buying form Michelle (Callahan13), and you are in the market to buy nice fuse bead colors that compliment Perler, please send her a private message on ebay (or through email) and ask for 2 specific Photopearls beads as well; Light Grey, and Lavender. She sells them for $1.95 per 1000 beads (so a little more expensive then Perler and Hama), but those colors are a dream come true. I could go on for hours about all the different Photopearl colors I would suggest to buy and why, but I'll save that for another time if you ask; for now though, those two are just PERFECT to add into a beginners palette since they don't exist anywhere else. I tell you you have to contact her privately about them because she sells them, but not on ebay, only by mention since they are reserved for serious beaders.LOL Razz

So, there you go. If you have any more questions about colors, I'll try to help as best I can (when I'm on this forum), other then that, keep on the beading grind stone. ^.^ <3

I could post some rambling thing saying thank you a thousand times over, but that would be un-necessary.

So..thank you very much for providing exactly what I need. Smile <3

Indeed! Very Happy

Now I run into the issue of realizing I need a whole bunch of different perler beads to refill what I have, too.

I need a job. XD

Yeah, i already got a reply for her and we're working something out. Getting refills on all my Perler stuff (I hope I got the colors right ^^;;) and the Hama beads you recommended.

I haven't done anything real impressive sprite-wise, but I'm gonna move up to a little more advanced megaman one if I get these beads anytime soon.

I'll post something at some point! Thanks again for the advice- it was really spot on, exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks for the more subtle color list. I have a feeling I'm gonna be banging my head on a wall before too long with some of these requests I have. This will help finding the perfect fades.
