I'm sure most of you enjoy video game/ anime soundtracks as much as I do, but is anyone interested in composing/remixing?

I just started last month because I finally broke down and bought myself a MIDI keyboard for my MacBook and Garage Band. (Yay!) I have no idea what I'm doing, but it's really fun! I'll be posting my finished songs on my blog as I go along, so if you want, you can certainly critique them or whatever.

I do a bit of VG remixes. Right now, all I have in the way of samples is what's on my Myspace.

I've been putting off making a music player for my website...I really should get on that.

I need to definitely work on more tunes- it's almost as addicting as beading, ha ha:)

I use FL Studio 8 from Imageline, but I'll utilize AcidPRO for beat mapping and adding vocals on occassion. For orchestrated intruments, I use the Garritan Personal Orchestra plugin.

hmm I may have to invest in better software- I've already discovered it's hard to find good soundfonts for Garage Band! All I need is a good piano sound, but no luck so far.

Garritan has a good Steinway piano, but if you're looking for something more rock or jazz oriented, it may not work as well. However, Garritan also makes a Personal Jazz Band - each of their programs are around $200, and I'm not sure what FL Studio is going for now, but their factory sounds are decent, and you can use any sound file as an intrument to manipulate.

Well sweet! I will probably save up for one of those programs...

And by the way, if anyone is in a critiquing mood, maybe you'd like to listen to my newly updated 'dire dire docks' piece and tell me what this needs to stand out for the OCRemix Judges? I *almost* got it to the final judging round a few weeks ago, but they said it needed more work- especially because the piano sounded "just above midi quality", and so on. I totally hear where they're coming from now that I've listened to both of these;P

Here is my OLD version:

...yeah, not so much...

And here's the NEW one I fixed up:

much bettah! (yes?)

Maybe the piano isn't as bad as I originally thought- I used the GB orchestra jam pack - Steinway piano, and figured out how to add a little echo for atmosphere.

Wheee, thanks for listening;)
