Hello all! I was brought to this wonderful forum by member Faith a while back, and I decided to come here and post a few of my pieces for you lovely folks.

These first few pieces I made from other suggestions from this site:

Chibi Tails

Chibi Sonic (both of these are for my sister's B-day today. Love you, Tori!!!)

Zoidberg! WOOPWOOPWOOPWOOPWOOPWOOPWOOP

These are some of my favorite gaming pieces:

Red Stealth from Kid Chameleon!

A dignified-looking Frog from Chrono Trigger.

Everyone's go-to sprite, Mega Man!

The world's greatest zombie killer, Zeke, from Zombies Ate My Neighbors!!!

This was my first commissioned piece: don't know a lot about it, other than it's apparently the symbol for the Phoenix Alliance guild from EVE Online. So, there's that!

These are my pride and joy pieces: bigger pieces I didn't rely too much on sprites for (except the Masamune piece).

THE greatest musician of all time, Les Claypool!!! And, yes, that is him in his get-up from the South Park opening (minus the hat fish, which I will finish soon).

This is a piece I used as a contest entry for the monthly Sprite Stitch forum contest. It's Masa (on the left) and Mune (on the right) from Chrono Trigger, protecting the all powerful sword, the Masamune!

Mr. Destructoid, the mascot of Destructoid!!!

And, finally, these are the pieces I have available at my Etsy store, alongside Frog and Mega Man up there.

Beat, from Jet Grind Radio!!!

Ivy, from the Soul Calibur series!!!

One of my favorite pieces, a coaster set of GIR, from Invader Zim!

Of course, these will not be the last pieces I put up here, but, with what I have, I hope you guys like my work!!!

Seconded on the MasaMune piece, that's wonderful. I like seeing sprites that are brought together to form a scene, gives it added life. And the Destructoid is cool. Will have to try my hand at 3D sometime.

Keep 'em rollin' in.

Yeah, I actually did the Destructoid bot in what, looking back, was one of the hardest ways to do it. Looking at some of the 3d models here and elsewhere, I saw that most people make interconnecting pieces for their models. I went through the arduous process of melting the beads straight on the iron (with no wax paper) and haphazardly trying to stick them together. Most of the time it worked, but I'd never advise someone to do 3d perlers that way.

Wow. Great work.

My favorites are Zeke (who I've been meaning to make for like a month), Les Claypool (who is just the shit!), and of course Mr.Destructoid.

Very Happy

Can't wait to see more.

The Masa and mune one is my favorite. I do enjoy when people make scenes out of them. Great job!

A Metroid for Dyson, (former) host of RetroforceGO!

A Chocobo for Colette, also from RetroforceGO!

Galaga enemy magnets for Topher, also also from RetroforceGO!

A SMB2 potion, available in my Etsy store.

Blue Castle Crasher, for me, because he's all I use. Find me on XBL sometime and we'll play an Arena match!!!

Wasn't planning on it. If I was keeping Servbot, maybe, but I never played the MM Legend series, so I'm not that familiar with her.

My new project:

I'm doing the main lettering up there, not the entire screen. I went to my parent's home for the weekend, and had a larger workspace to work on, and this is what I have so far:

Now, my question to you fine folks: should I keep the shadows of the letters the way they are (with the black border), get rid of the border, or get rid of the shadows entirely? I'm not sure which would look the best.

My only question is, why make them grey? I think they'd look better with the dark green the way they are in the screenshot - and the highlighted area of the letters with green as well - unless, of course, you don't have dark green beads.

Also, you're beading from that image right? I would grab a .gif or .png file to work from, cause .jpg's have horrible compression. Of course, it looks l like you're not using the picture you posted, based on the way your beads are laid out...so don't worry about it then.

Regardless, I grabbed this image in it's raw .png form and threw it on my grid, if it helps. There is still a 1 pixel border around the outside if you choose to do the outline.

I like the gray more, sure it would be more for realz if he used green but the gray would look better

And you should probably double up on the black so that it looks better on an angle, I did one row of white on my Mr.Game and watch and it looked terrible

I think the green will make it look like a shadow personally.

I think a dark grey would work...i mean, it may not seem like it, but that particular shade of blue you used is basically the same color as Grey - don't believe me? Take that photo into Photoshop and convert it to grayscale, or desaturate it - either way, you won't even be able to tell the difference between the two, and that difference in lightness makes a big difference to me...check it out:

I dunno, maybe taking art in college and studying colors intensly for an entire semester was pointless Razz I'm really not trying to be a dick...I just honestly think it would look way better with a darker shade of grey or the original green.

You never want to use greys of the same lightness as a bordering color, cause your eyes only see color head on - I know, you won't be looking at this thing out of the corner of your eye, but your brain interprets things differently than you really see them, so in cases like this, certain people (example me Rolling Eyes ) will become incredibly irked by this particular color choice...it's like putting bright yellow text over white - kind of like the white beads on the yellow pegboard in the don't show up in the second picture. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Okay, I'm done being a jackass...
...but my last line of reasoning is that the original sprite used green, so why change it?

I agree with everything Doc just said. I would do something like the green or dark grey for sure so you will get the best results.
