Yep, I just beaded up Piston Honda, will iron him sometime later today. I swore to myself I'd finally get this damn set of Punch Out opponents done before the end of the year. Laughing

It really depends on which opponent it is. The large characters, like Bald Bull and Sandman, require almost twice the beads as smaller guys like Flamenco and Tiger.

It also takes me longer than usual because I get really O.C. with bead quality (silly things like going back and eliminating the miniscule differences in bead height and the occasional color anomaly) when beadspriting. Most people would likely only need 2/3 the time that I do to make these.

It usually takes me about 1.5 hours per full pegboard used, and I guess about 4 hours for the smaller opponents, and 7 for the huge ones. But don't gauge the time needed on these by how long I take, I'm a bit of a weirdo with my methods of spriting & ironing. Laughing

End results are all that matter here, bud.
I know what you mean about diffrences in spriting, though, I have gone the route of outline/black, then smallest to largest colors, like a fill method.

My wife goes line by line and usually creams me in speed.

To each his own I gather.

Yeah, I'll definitely be doing Tyson; I'll likely also make Mr. Dream.

What's left to do, probably in this order:

Piston Honda (he's done, just have to photograph once I buy a new posterboard color for the background)
Von Kaiser
Referee Mario
Mr. Dream
Mike Tyson

Thank you, as always Doc.

I was brainstorming earlier today on how to best make that Contra Boss full-screenshot that I've been pining over making for ages now. I think I'm going to try a new, unorthodox method that takes pegboards and ironing out of the equation. I'll have to run it by you and get your feedback, as you'll likely have some invaluable insight for the details.

Whoa...that's suicide! Haha. Nah, I think I know what you're planning...but I honestly think you'd be better off with ironing separate pieces, if its the "ironing of large pieces" that you're really trying to avoid. I did a tutorial on the process for layered bead sprites - did you see that yet?

Part 01
Part 02

I would like to hear your idea though...it's just, if you're going to try what I think you are, you'd be better off with ironing and pegboards...assuming I'm right Razz

I wish someone would make a 3 foot x 3 foot grid for perler beads out of some type of material that stays flat.

I liked Doc's Idea for the 58pegx58peg interlocking. I think that would be perfect for most jobs.

Or as was brought up before...by NES? I forget, but the fact that videogame sprites generally use grids as a multiple of 16, 32, etc. I honestly like interlocking pegboards the way they are now, but yeah, larger can't hurt.

28x28 if you go in between the pegs, I believe.

Yeah, in between can work for Perler, but with the hama beads, being slightly smaller in diameter, they're not as stable when ironing.

I think it was said once that hama boards connect 2x per side, but have a low melt tolerance...anyone ever try them?

Nah, not a regular close-up. Just a corner shot with most of the other early opponents for now:

Two custom SNES Super Mario Kart bead sprites - Magikoopa and Wario.
I have some other custom SMK racers to finish beading up, then I'll take a photo of all 14 or more total racers (including the game's 8 originals) together.
